November Grey

Garry Oak trees.
(Camera: Hasselblad 503cx; Lens: 80mm Zeiss Planar; Film: Fuji Acros 100)

I shot this yesterday while walking through Devonian Regional Park along one of the numerous paths that lead from the parking lot to Taylor Beach. My favourite route takes me along the fence line of an adjacent farm, which is where these Garry Oak trees are located.

Once I’d set up my camera and dialed in the exposure and aperture settings, it was a matter of waiting for the breaks in the clouds to arrange themselves into an attractive pattern. There’s always a slight element of gambling involved in this part of the process — you can you miss out on a good moment hoping it’ll get even better if you wait just a little longer. Sometimes it does, but sometimes it doesn’t.
