It’s the end of the year, which is traditionally a time for backward reflection and, of course, lists. Everyone loves lists, especially — top 10s. It’s practically the only thing TV news programs run during the final days of the year. Although I have picked 10 of my favourite images from 2012, it’s hard to think of this really as a Top 10. In truth, the selection is almost arbitrary since it’s impossible to be objective about one’s own work. On another day, I might choose 10 completely different images.
The other complication is that one’s most recent images are always the freshest and most appealing. Indeed, I could have quite happily just pulled up the 10 most recently posted shots and used those. Seriously. At a certain point though, all you can do is throw caution to the wind and just pick some pictures. So, presented here are the ones that (at this moment) I feel are among my best from 2012. Interestingly (to me, at least) I used eight different cameras for these shots. Half the photos are medium-format, half 35mm. I guess that lends some credence to the idea that the equipment doesn’t really matter a great deal.
If you have a particular favourite from this bunch or, for that matter elsewhere on the site, drop me a line or leave a comment — I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Happy new year everyone!
