I’ve had Iceland on the mind lately. Perhaps its news of a possible impending volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula, or maybe it’s because I’m working on a print from one of my trips to Iceland in the darkroom. In any case, I hope to get back soon once travel becomes a “thing” again.

Incidentally, for those who think the Hasselblad isn’t a suitable travel camera, you can read my thoughts on the subject here.

Kidd Lake

In the darkroom this week I’ve been working on a print of this shot. After a couple of tries, I think it’s getting close to what I’m after. Once I’ve created a print map with an 8×10, it’s time to move on to making the “real” print on 11×14 paper.

Lone Ponderosa

That’s Okanagan Lake in the background with the city of Penticton along its shoreline.

I made a print of this negative, which I’m quite pleased with. It was relatively easy. The main challenge was to retain the highlights in the foreground bunch grass while adding contrast to the rest of the scene. A little burning of the sky was also needed to even out the overall contrast. Both these tasks were made easier by using split-grad printing.
