2018: The Year of Shooting With Old Iron
I’ve never been a photo-project kind of guy. There’s obviously nothing wrong with focusing one’s creative energy that way, it’s just never been my thing. At the same time, I find myself falling victim to the tyranny of choice and muse about joining the one-camera/one-lens brigade. But I know I never will. I just have too many cameras that I like to shoot to ever really be happy in that box. So here’s my compromise—a year using one type of camera and one type of lens. Continue reading

Favourite Cameras: Ricoh “35” S
When I found this camera in a thrift store, I wasn’t sure it would ever work well enough to see film again. It was in sorry shape. The lens assembly was loose, the shutter was gummed up to the point of being completely non-functional, and the aperture ring barely budged. But it had “good bones,” as they say in the real estate world, so I offered $20 for it, which the clerk eagerly took—a little too eagerly perhaps! Continue reading
