Gas on the Street

Sidewalk, Victoria, B.C. (Camera: Pentax Espio Mini; Film: Fuji Superia 200)

This is literally street photography! I like the contrasting shapes and colours. And I like that you can find pictures right under your feet if you look carefully enough.

Favourite Cameras: Agfa Isolette II

I’ve written about many cameras here on FilmAdvance.com, but one that’s long overdue for review is my Agfa Isolette II. It’s a real workhorse. Indeed, within my modest collection of medium-format cameras, only the Hasselblad has had more film run through it. Continue reading

This house, and two of its neighbours are going to be taken down to make way for more condominiums. And this pipe will be gone.

Follow the Birds

Craigdarroch Castle, Victoria, B.C.
(Camera: Olympus OM-PC; Film: Fuji Acros 100)

Following on from my discussion here of Victoria tourism slogans, this “Point of Interest” sign is the only remaining old-style sign I’m aware of still in existence. Nice that they’ve at least kept this one.

Winging Away

Down town bus terminal, Douglas Street, Victoria, B.C. (Camera: Konica Big Mini BM-302; Film: Kodak Gold 200)

Soon to be no more, the down town Greyhound and Pacific Coach Lines bus depot. I for one will miss all its kitschy splendour it when it’s gone. The seagull was once a popular icon for Victoria and often appeared on tourist signs and posters, often accompanied with the enticing slogan “follow the birds to Victoria, British Columbia.” Ah, simpler times.
