Car Parts #1

Pontiac hood ornament, Victoria, BC.

I don’t know much about cars. Heck, who am I kidding? I don’t know anything about them. But I do know what I think looks cool — and few things look as cool as old hood ornaments. As near as I can tell, this one adorns a 1954 Pontiac. Anyone know for sure?

Goodbye Iceland . . . For Now

Near Arnarstapi, Western Iceland.
(Camera: Fujifilm GA645 Professional; Film: Kodak Portra 400)

I’ve put up quite a few photos from Iceland over the past few months and feel it’s time to move on.  For now, that is.  I’ll be returning next spring, and I may from time to time post more shots from past trips.  I hope you’ve enjoyed my views of this fascinating and fantastic place.

Playing Statue

Artwork by Steinunn Þórarinsdóttir, Keflavik airport, Iceland.

One of the many remarkable aspects of Icelandic culture is their dedication to public art of a very high quality. Walking around Reykjavik, you see it everywhere. There’s even a fine showing at Keflavik airport, including the whimsical Jet Nest sculpture by Magnús Tómasson, which greets (or bids farewell, depending) visitors, as well as the piece shown above. You can read more about these artworks here.
