Back from Iceland with a suitcase full of exposed film. Expect a lot of photos from that trip to appear here in the next little while, starting with this one . . . Continue reading

Surreal Breakwater

Sunset at Ogden Point breakwater, Victoria, BC.
(Camera: Lomography Belair; Lens: Belairgon 80mm; Film: Fuji Reala 100)

I didn’t mean to take this photo, but I can’t deny that I really like how it turned out. There’s a certain water-colour paiting look to this that I find quite appealing. Normally I avoid accidents (happy, or otherwise) like the plague, but here I am enjoying a classic Lomography result in spite of myself. I hope that doesn’t make me a hipster!

Constantine’s Foot

Palazzo dei Conservatori, Rome, Italy.
(Camera: Pentax Espio Mini; Film: Kodak Gold 400)

This is only a small part of a colossal statue of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Even though the statue has the emperor in a seated pose, it’s was still something like 30 feet high. Get the feeling he might have been compensating for something? If he were alive today, he’d probably be driving around in a Hummer or some big-ass truck.

I love Garry oak trees — they have the most intricate structures and the older they get, the wilder they look. I shot this during a recent stretch of foggy weather we had here, which helps give the scene a little more atmosphere. Continue reading
