Review: Lomography Belairgon 90mm Lens

As readers of my four-part review of will recall, I felt there were many things to like about Lomography’s Belair X 6-12 camera, but image quality wasn’t one of them. A good deal of the camera’s potential was limited by the two included lenses. So when Lomography announced that new lenses with glass (!) optics would soon be available, I put in my order right away. Five months later my 90mm Belairgon lens finally arrived. As soon as I had it unpacked, I loaded a roll of film into the camera and went shooting. Here’s what I found. Continue reading

Favourite Cameras: Konica C35 Automatic

Unwanted and unloved. Lying in a tattered cardboard box at a local yard sale, I found a battered little ‘70s Konica rangefinder. It was ugly. There was some kind of black, tarry substance blotting bits of the top panel and the glass rangefinder window had fallen inside the camera body. I popped open the back and discovered, to my complete non-surprise, that the light seals had turned into sticky goo. Maybe — just maybe — with a good dose of restoration, this hunk of neglect could be transformed into a working camera. Favourite Cameras: Olympus XA

Ah, the XA. Could this be the ultimate pocketable camera? On paper, it has it all — if by “all” you mean a compact camera with plenty of user control. Rangefinder focus? Check. Exposure control?
